Kepard is a relatively small VPN service provider based in Moldova. Despite their size, they are actually quite a good company, with great features and performance, as well as decent prices. Kepard runs on all major operating systems and their Windows and Android clients are particularly good. They have a modest number of servers but they make up for it by allowing unlimited traffic speeds and data. Find out more in this comprehensive Kepard review.

Interface

Kepard has a nice little client that is rather easy to use, even if you are not exactly a computer wizard. It shows very plainly some of the basic and most important information regarding your VPN connection, such as the server you are connecting to, whether the connection is on or off, what kind of protocol you are using, and so on. Server switching is easy. The same goes for protocols. There is a huge power button in the middle of the interface, which makes switching your VPN on and off not just easy but also kind of fun.

Performance and Reliability

Kepard has servers in the US, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, and several other countries. The speeds are decent, although they work better with servers located closer to where you are. We performed several speed tests with different speed test providers and we got quite consistent results. As you can expect, your connection slows down when using a VPN, but it’s not a dramatic drop. We have seen better connection speeds in other VPN providers, but Kepard is still pretty solid. P2P sharing can only be used with the Netherlands server and it works great for users located in Europe.

Multi-Platform

Kepard has dedicated clients for Windows and Android and both work just fine. This doesn’t mean that other operating systems and platforms aren’t compatible – Kepard provides very clear and detailed instructions for configuring Linux and Mac OS for different protocols (however, L2TP is not available for Linux-based systems and devices).

Features

Kepard allows you to encrypt your web traffic and protect your privacy and anonymity. It also allows you to access websites that are otherwise off-limits due to various restrictions. It gives you more freedom in surfing the web by assigning you a different IP address, meaning it allows you to be anonymous online.

The company’s geographic coverage is decent. They have servers in France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Spain, the UK, the United States, and Canada. It would be nice to see some servers in South America, Asia, and Africa, but Kepard is a relatively small VPN provider so expecting such wide coverage would probably be too optimistic.

Kepard Servers

Connecting and disconnecting the VPN is very easy to do with a simple click, thanks to the user-friendly VPN client. The client also automatically detects whenever your VPN connection is lost for whatever reason and urges you to reconnect. Another feature we liked is the automatic best server proposal, meaning you don’t have to take wild guesses as to which server to connect to.

Security features include OpenVPN, L2TP, and PPTP protocols and up to 256-bit encryption. In addition, there is a NAT Firewall included, which works as an additional layer of security. This mechanism is implemented on the server level, which means it covers all the devices and connections going through those servers.

Kepard allows two simultaneous connections, so you can connect two of your devices at the same time. This is very useful, of course, but bear in mind that many other VPN providers offer four, five or even more simultaneous connections. Switching between countries and different IP addresses is unlimited and the same goes for traffic and speed. As for the logs policy, Kepard, unfortunately, does keep some logs. We will further elaborate on this in the Security and Privacy section of this Kepard review.

On the bright side, the company offers various perks and benefits to its customers, old and new. Old customers can count on occasional discounts and there are frequent promotions, discounts, and rewards for new subscribers. Kepard even allows you to use Premium VPN services for free through their referral program. Basically, for every friend you refer (provided they actually sign up for the service), you get 30 days of Premium VPN for free. You can refer up to six people, which means you can get up to 180 days of free Premium VPN services.

As we mentioned earlier in this Kepard review, the provider allows and supports P2P sharing (torrenting) but bear in mind that for such activities, you will have to connect to servers dedicated specifically to P2P.

Security and Privacy

Kepard makes it very clear in their Terms and Conditions that they will collaborate with Moldovan authorities if required. They record your IP address and your registration e-mail, as well as the times and dates of your sessions, but the good news is that the logs are cleared after only three days, which means by the time the subpoena arrives, your records are probably long gone (except for your e-mail, but there’s not much that can be done with that anyway).

This sort of privacy and security should be enough for most users, especially those interested in using a VPN for streaming or accessing blocked websites. Still, it would definitely be better if they kept no logs at all. Kepard supports PPTP, L2TP and, most importantly, OpenVPN. From what we could see, all these protocols work just fine and it’s up to you to decide which one you want to use. It seems that Kepard does not accept Bitcoin at this time.

Support

The website offers detailed instructions for OpenVPN, PPTP, and L2TP setup for different versions of Windows, iOS, Android, Linux, and Mac. They also have a FAQ section, which is pretty extensive, and if you still have some questions, you can contact the support staff directly. Unfortunately, there is no live chat option and you have to use an e-mail form (after signing up for the support panel). However, the staff works around the clock and you usually get your answer within minutes, so there might not even be any need for a live chat after all.

We were a bit surprised to learn that Kepard only has one package – the Premium one, which is $7 per one month, $16 for three months, and $42 for one year. You can earn extra VPN services by inviting friends, which earns you up to 180 days of 400MB per day. Kepard offers one day of free VPN services once you register.

Kepard is a cool little VPN service if you’re not looking for extra special features and some fancy stuff. It gets the job done but it could definitely do better in some areas, for example, the speeds are sometimes just disastrous and make streaming a nightmare.

  2. Louis Martinez | May 29, 2017

Horrible connections, I don’t know what kind of obsolete servers their running but the connection keeps crashing. It’s a mess.

  3. BenBeeyouM | April 25, 2017

Kepard is actually a decent service. They seem like some Euro trash upon first sight but I’ve been using them for six months or so and their vpn works just fine. The client is great.
