Important Update! My Private Network has been bought by Le VPN. The deal happened on January 24, 2019. Their website is still live however when you click to buy the subscription it redirects to Le VPN site.

My Private Network is a virtual private network service that offers servers in a whopping 44 countries throughout the world. Wherever you happen to be, you can be sure that My Private Network will provide you with a secure and private Internet connection that can bypass local Internet restrictions and geographic limitations. They shift slightly toward the ‘simpler’ side, but some users will actually treat that as a bonus. Read our objective My Private Network review to discover more about this popular VPN provider.

Interface

Even if you have never used a VPN before, you should have no problem downloading and installing the software. The installation instructions are detailed and easy to follow and you can make use of the handy video tutorials. You can turn your VPN on and off in just one click and check whether your secure connection is established in a single glance. The My Private Network icon is green if the connection is established and red if it is not active.

As for the client itself, it’s as simple as it can get. Unlike a number of other VPNs, they didn’t opt for the Windows 98-style frames. Instead, theirs look as if they have a built-in aero theme, which is good news for people who value aesthetics. Still, the design is rather clean, with all features clearly displayed and readily accessible.

Performance and Reliability

My Private Network currently operates servers in 44 countries worldwide. Their client is reliable and stable, achieving standard speeds, as expected. We are happy to report that during our tests, everything ran smoothly in a low traffic environment. We did experience several dropouts during streaming in a high-traffic environment, but this is something we have found in other VPN services as well.

My Private Network imposes no bandwidth limits. With your subscription, you get unlimited bandwidth, with only one restriction. There are countries that strictly follow the rules prescribed by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. If you are connected to one of these countries, your torrent downloads will be blocked.

Multi-Platform

My Private Network definitely isn’t the #1 VPN out there, but that’s just it – they never aimed to be the best. Instead, they offer good services for a fair price. But there’s one thing that they manage to excel at – and that’s compatibility with other devices. As of current, you can install My Private Network on Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10, iOS, Mac, Android, Linux, and Kindle Fire. It even supports DD-WRT VPNs.

Features

As we have already mentioned in this My Private Network review, this VPN lets you enjoy the benefits of the most sophisticated SSL protocol with highest-level encryption and it is compatible with a wide range of platforms. However, while you can configure My Private Network VPN on as many devices as you like, you can only use it on up to 5 devices at the same time.

Downloading torrents is an option with My Private Network, but only if you connect to their servers in Russia and Malaysia. Torrenting attempts from servers in other countries are automatically blocked due to copyright violations.

Once you establish a secure VPN connection, you get to enjoy an ad-free environment while browsing. This feature is useful not only in terms of security but also in terms of navigation.

Your subscription also brings you MyTelly, a Smart DNS service which automatically redirects your connection based on the requirements of the content you wish to access. This is a feature that is most appreciated by fans of live streaming.

Recently, My Private Network has introduced the possibility of paying via BitPay. This option lets you stay anonymous even during the purchase of the VPN and it is a truly welcome improvement of their service.

Apart from unlimited bandwidth, this service boasts an impressive number of servers in as many as 44 countries. That means that you can not only enjoy limitless traffic but also great speed and great choice in terms of connecting to the server that best fits your needs.

Security and Privacy

Despite the general opinion that this is a light-weight VPN provider, one thing they take very seriously is security. The company keeps a strict zero-log policy and they assure you that your privacy, as well as your security, are guaranteed at all times. They do, however, have a user and password setting and some people argue that passwords are often backtraced to their authors, but that’s still up for debate.

There are 4 types of protocols available, PPTP, IKEv2, L2TP, and SSL. PPTP, IKEv2, and L2TP are simpler and can be set up without any additional downloads while SSL requires a client to be installed. However, SSL is the preferred type due to the highest level of encryption, but other types may provide greater speeds. Therefore, we advise you to choose the connection type based on your preferences, depending on what you value more, greater speed or greater protection.

Support

While some people reported that they had issues with the account creation process, they also stressed that the issues were quickly resolved by a support team that definitely knew what they were doing. Conveniently, we also ran into some issues while creating our test account and support was rather quick to respond. At the moment, My Private Network only offers live chat support via mobile apps. However, the rate at which they responded to our inquiry via email and the amount of helpful information they gave us was more than enough to tell us that their support for desktop users is excellent as well.

My Private Network offers free and paid plans. The free plan is limited and comes with great security and privacy, all protocols supported, and unlimited quota. However, unlike paid plans, it does not come with unlimited speed, content access, and country selection. Also, it does not support simultaneous connections.

With the paid plans, you can choose between two package types. The basic package that most people get is a single country subscription, which costs around $6.50 per month with the monthly subscription, $6.20 with the quarterly subscription, and $5.20 with the annual subscription.

Alternatively, you can purchase a global subscription for about $11.70 per month with the monthly subscription, $11.10 with the quarterly subscription, and $9.35 with the yearly subscription. Note that pricing is only available in Sterling and that we’ve done basic conversions – the final prices may vary with exchange rate fluctuations. They offer four payment options: PayPal, Credit/Debit Card (Gate2Shop and Stripe), BitPay, and Bank Transfer.

If you want to try out the full-featured service before committing to a subscription, you can make use of their 3-day free trial, which requires no credit card information and allows you full access to all servers and the MyTelly service. They also offer a 100% money back guarantee, so if you aren’t satisfied with their services, you can get your money back and keep on searching.
