ExpressVPN passes another independent audit

ExpressVPN Audit TrustedServer

ExpressVPN is one of those companies working hard to improve their applications and make them the safest on the market. This is something that sets them apart from all the others claiming their VPN solutions are the best. You’ve probably heard or seen those ads dozens of times before. The reason why they’re doing that is simply they can. Apart from a handful of VPN review sites, no one actually checks whether these apps are safe and secure. And let alone invites third parties to audit them.

We already talked about how You can earn $100,000 if you can hack ExpressVPN, so it’s no surprise we’re talking about them again. And we will continue to do so as long as they keep their end of the bargain. That means regular audits by trusted third parties who are willing to publicly share their findings. This is another important component in this whole thing. We need to be able to read the actual report and see for ourselves what it says.

So, after this lengthy intro, let’s talk about ExpressVPN’s latest audit. First of all, they passed the audit with flying colors. You’ve probably heard about a cybersecurity firm, F-Secure as they’ve been in the business for more than thirty years. They have offices all over the world and have worked with large companies on their cybersecurity issues. The audit itself lasted for a month, from November 2021 to December 2021. Now, if you’re wondering what exactly this entails, let’s get a bit technical.

Two main aspects of these tests were privacy and security. This pertains to information disclosure or IP address leakage as well as the ability of an attacker to execute code remotely. The security and privacy protection measures worked well and there were no issues here. This is not surprising as F-Secure is only the latest company to conduct such an investigation. Before them, PwC Switzerland audited their privacy policy compliance and in-house technology TrustedServer.

We previously mentioned that one of the most important aspects of this audit, from a user standpoint, is the ability to actually read the audit itself. We read the entire report and you can too here: F-Secure ExpressVPN 2021 audit. It’s sixteen pages long, so it might take a while but it’s an interesting read. Especially if you’re interested in cybersecurity. Finally, if you want to know more about this VPN solution, you can read our ExpressVPN review or simply visit their site.
