Pure VPN

I chose PureVPN because it offers the biggest coverage. I was immpresed by the number of servers which is around 2000 I think, and that I can pick by country. Also, it allows me to use my standard communication apps when I travel which I do a Lot. It’s annoying to install a different app every time I go to China or Dubai and lots of my business correspondence happens online and via skype.

More than a month ago i have purchased PureVPN. I have tested it for less than a day and was not satisfied. The next day i wanted money refund. After many e-mails and support tickets, still no money refund. They don't even want to answer my tickets. I'm desperate and don't know what to do any more.

Not only did this VPN not serve the intended purpose, their customer service is the worst I have dealt with from any tech company in years. They were unhelpful and unwilling to honor their money back guarantee. I had to speak with at least seven representatives over two weeks to get anything resolved.

Brad Park is my name. These guys are awful. Service does not work for netflix. Then I asked for refund. They said they OK. then the next day they said they can't refund due to "merchant limitations". And they offered me a gift card!!!! Don't sign up. The service is crappy and they are dishonest

Based on positive reviews, I tried VyprVPNs risk free trial. As is customary amongst many providers, they charge your credit card on enrollment. The IP address assigned geolocated to three different countries, apparently had not completed transition. My streaming traffic was blocked for in-country restriction. Contacting support was no help of course so I canceled the service. Three inquiries and several weeks later, no refund. Doing my part to inform the public. Buyer beware.

I can describe this VPN as a DISASTER! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS VPN! TRIAL VERSION??? There is no trial version without your credit card or PayPal address and payment!!! Except that VPN demands your POSTAL CODE, without it you cannot register for a TRIAL 3 day version. After this HELL, I could not log in and I had to change my password, After this "password change disaster" I got this message from vyprvpn: "Internal Server Error: Our server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. The appropriate people have been notified, and the problem will be corrected shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience."

First, to be fair, I have to mention that the VPN service itself is okay. It usually works, has lots of servers to choose from and is relatively stable. It's worth noting however that if you use Vypr from China, there has been lot of downtime lately (late 2018 to early 2019), sometimes up to 3 weeks at a time. Now, my big complaint is that they seem to have really shady business practices with paying customers. I first registered with VyprVPN in 2014 with what they called at the time a PRO account, paying $99.99/year for the service. In 2017, the PRO service was discontinued and replaced with what they call the PREMIUM service, costing $80/year. Problem is, they never informed me or other customers by email about this so, if you didn't personally change from PRO to Premium in account settings, you would still be paying $99.99 yearly for their $80 Premium service, which I did until today. When I contacted their customer service about this, all they could manage to say was that it wasn't their responsibility to change their customer's payment plan and that they could do nothing about the extra money I had been paying them for the last 2 years. So, for the last 2 years, I paid VyprVPN either $19.99 or $39.98 extra that I didn't have to pay (depending on when in 2017 they switched from PRO to Premium). Might not seem like a lot but when you consider that they probably have thousands + customers and that I'm unlikely to be the only one with this problem...Terrible service!

Good VPN, but what’s up with the log keeping? They should really think about changing that, they would get a lot more users.

Winner

One of the strongest players on the VPN market, VyprVPN will impress you with its number of servers and IP addresses and superb security features. Great choice for protecting your online privacy.

Comparison Breakdown

As you will see below in our PureVPN vs. VyprVPN comparison, we have taken into consideration several important factors that every user should focus on when trying to figure out which VPN provider to choose. We will compare apps, prices, security measures, customer support, reliability, and other areas that should definitely help you decide between these two providers.

Apps

  • PureVPN features native apps for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and Linux. However, manual setup can be performed on gaming consoles (PS3/4, Xbox, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U), routers (Tomato, DD-WRT, Belkin, Asus, TP-Link, etc.), Android TV, Kodi, Roku, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV & Firestick, Apple TV, BoxeeBox, Raspberry Pi, Kindle Fire, WebOS, Blue Ray Players, and many other platforms.
  • VyprVPN offers native apps for Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, QNAP, routers, Blackphone, Android TV, and Anonabox. Manual setup guides are available for DD-WRT, OpenWRT, and AsusWRT routers as well as Synology NAS, Boxee, and Blackberry.

Support Type

  • PureVPN offers various types of customer support, including live chat, ticket system, support requests from the client itself, and an excellent FAQ section.
  • Apart from its extensive FAQ section, VyprVPN also provides its users with 24/7 customer support via a ticket system and live chat.

IP Type

  • PureVPN offers around 300,000 IPs. Every account receives one dedicated IP address, but users can also join shared servers.
  • VyprVPN features more than 200,000 IPs, but it offers only dynamic shared addresses.

Pricing Options

  • The one-month subscription with PureVPN costs $10.95 and the 1-year and 2-year plans are priced at $5.81 and $3.33, respectively. There is no free trial or free limited version, but there is a 31-day money-back guarantee. PureVPN accepts Bitcoin.
  • VyprVPN offers two subscription plans, Basic ($5/mo if billed annually; $9.95/mo if billed monthly) and Premium ($6.67/mo if billed annually; $12.95/mo if billed monthly). There is no free trial, but every purchase comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Bitcoin is not one of the accepted payment methods.

Protocols

  • PureVPN offers all the security protocols in use these days, from OpenVPN, which is considered to be the safest, to StealthVPN, IKEv2, L2TP, and PPTP.
  • With VyprVPN, you can pick between OpenVPN, Chameleon, L2TP/IPsecp, and PPTP. Chameleon is a proprietary option designed for users in countries with heavy Internet censorship.

Performance & Reliability

  • PureVPN operates some 2,000+ servers in 140+ countries all over the world. This provider allows you to connect up to five devices at the same time and comes with unlimited server switching, bandwidth, and speed. P2P sharing is allowed. The provider is based in Hong Kong.
  • VyprVPN is based in Switzerland and offers 700+ servers spread across 70+ locations. Furthermore, it supports 3 simultaneous connections with the basic subscription and up to 5 with the premium plan. Users get unlimited bandwidth, server switching, and speed. P2P and torrenting is also allowed.

Security & Protection

  • PureVPN has some excellent security features, from 1st party DNS servers, a kill switch, and NAT firewall to Wi-Fi protection and split tunneling. It is a zero-log VPN service with the so-called Ozone feature designed to prevent malware and other malicious entities from affecting your device in any way. The strongest encryption is AES-256.
  • VyprVPN has pretty much the same security measures as its competitor, except for split tunneling and malware protection. It also implements a strict no-logging policy, as confirmed by an independent audit in 2018.
