Is hide.me VPN Safe?

A VPN service based in Malaysia, hide.me VPN is not forced by law to log and store your Internet session logs, plus it has a strict policy against that. The company shares the vision of Internet creators, which allows people to share information freely and privately in a decentralized way. One specific feature of hide.me VPN is its strong presence in Germany, which is excellent news for all European users.

Its premium plan can seem a bit overpriced, but we’ll explore the security levels of the entire service today and see if it’s worth your money or not.

Is hide.me VPN Safe

Logging Policy

As we already mentioned, hide.me VPN is under no legal obligation to log user activity or hand over user data to any governmental body. Furthermore, it was certified as a completely log-free VPN service after an audit performed by Leon Juranic of Defense Code Ltd.

This VPN provider also publishes transparency reports of various requests by authorities for info on users of the VPN service. The company’s response has always been that it keeps no logs and is thus unable to provide such information. It is located outside both US and EU jurisdictions and is even ready to change locations if needed.

Encryption

hide.me VPN Encryption

This VPN supports OpenVPN, PPTP, L2T, IPSec (IKEv1 and IKEv2), SoftEther, and SSTP. We always recommend going with OpenVPN, but IKEv2 is also a very secure option. The service supports SOCKS proxy.

It also features dynamic port forwarding, which is a far better solution than exposing ports of the user’s device strategically. It’s extremely easy to set up.

The service utilizes AES-256 cipher to encrypt your connection. This cipher has no known weaknesses so far and is virtually unbreakable by hackers.

P2P

This VPN service provider has 32 servers all around the world. It allows torrenting on most of them, but not all. The number of servers is not overly impressive as it is and limiting P2P to just some of them makes it even more difficult to view hide.me VPN as a serious torrenting VPN.

DNS Leaks

We didn’t discover any DNS leaks during our testing. On the other hand, we did experience a problem with IP checks. When you connect to one of hide.me VPN’s servers located in the Netherlands, some databases will pinpoint your location to Germany and others to the Netherlands. Namely, as most hide.me VPN users are from Germany, Google “believes” that some IP addresses of hide.me VPN servers are from Germany. The company cannot fix this error since it’s caused by Google software.
